MICHAEL YAMIN

YAMIN--Michael Geoffrey. Passed away at home on November 17, 2022 at the age of 91. A U.S. Navy Veteran, he served on the U.S.S. Abbott during the Korean War. Michael graduated from Harvard College in 1953 and Harvard Law School in 1958. He was a practicing attorney in NYC until he retired at age 89 from Kaufmann, Gildin & Robbins. Since the 1970's, he employed the law to fight for green space, bike paths, community gardens, zoning restrictions and the South Street Seaport. He was a devoted father and grandfather; an active volunteer with his alma mater; local Community Board 6 and most recently as a strategist with the Save Our Seaport coalition. As a lifelong sailor, one of his favorite volunteer activities was serving as a crew member on the South Street Seaport's 1885 schooner "Pioneer" until his mid 80's. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Martina (Schaap) Yamin; two children, Jeremy Yamin and Katrina S. Yolen; their spouses; and five grandchildren.
