MICHEL DAVID-WEILL Obituary

DAVID-WEILL--Michel. NewYork-Presbyterian mou- rns the passing of esteemed Life Trustee Michel David-Weill. Michel was elected a Trustee of the Society of New York Hospital in 1986, a Trustee of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in 1998, and began his tenure as a Life Trustee in 2013. An internationally known investment banker and heir to the Lazard banking dynasty, Michel was born in Paris, France, on November 23, 1932. He graduated from the Lycee Francais in New York and from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques in Paris. He joined Lazard Freres & Co. in 1956 and served as senior partner of Lazard's Paris and New York partnerships. Known for his commitment to excellence and visionary leadership, he was ultimately named Chairman in 1977. Michel had an extraordinary love of art, particularly French painting of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, and was listed as one of the world's 200 top collectors. He was a Trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In France, he was a member of the "Institut" (Academie des Beaux-Arts), President of the "Conseil Artistique des Musees Nationaux," and held positions in several other artistic and cultural institutions. Michel will be deeply missed by all of us. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his wife, Helene; their four daughters, Beatrice, Cecile, Natalie, and Agathe; and their families. He will be buried in Paris, and the family is planning a memorial service in New York for the fall. Jerry I. Speyer Chair, Board of Trustees Steven J. Corwin, M.D. President and Chief Executive Officer NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital
