MIRIAM WINTER

WNTER--Miriam Gendler known for her generosity and love of the outdoors, died on July 2, 2012. She was 100. Born in Odessa, Ukraine, Miriam left the country in 1924 with her parents and sister Emi. She married Edward Winternitz in 1938, and also lived in Austria and Palestine prior to emigrating to the U.S. in 1939. An avid swimmer, she won numerous diving medals competing internationally. Her impressive career spanned many years. Miriam broke down barriers achieving vice president status in the early 60's working for Technitron in New York. She is survived by her nephew Dan Winters of Boulder, CO. Many dear friends were close at her side including Ann Youkeles, Gabriele Wachsner, Henny Muller and Jim Belby. Her faithful aides, Carmen, Myriam and Salamae, provided constant care and were a blessing to Miriam in her final days. A memorial service will be held at a future date.
