My most sincere sympathy to the Brownstein family! In my life in the tragic death of my wife Suzanne i will always be in awe of Morty and his offer to assist my family in any way he could. He was a wonderful and caring human being who I admire as a role model for my life!
I will always love and miss this outstanding example of a leader in my life ! A terrific role model to all he came in contact with!

Dear Brownsteins,
It is with great warmth that I recollect meeting you 39 years ago for the first time, at the Jewish General Hospital. You immediately befamilied me and I still remember tasting your incredible lemon meringue pie in my hospital bed.
It was with great sadness that we heard of Morty's passing. Not only will Montreal, and especially its Jewish community, miss a leader and great philanthropist, but the entire world will now be without a great gentleman, the personification of the word "MENSCH".
On behalf of Marla and I, please accept our most heartfelt condolences.

I first met Mr Morty Bownstein way back when Brown's Shoes first came to Toronto. Although you may not remember me I remember you - I worked for the company in Halzelton Lanes for 5 years and met most of the family then. I always considered Mr Brownstein to be a gracious boss. I have many, many fond memories of my time working for the company and would like to express my deepest sympathy to Mrs. Brownstein, Micheal and Janis who I met over the years. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time.

To Bernice and the family,
it was with deep sadness that we heard about Morty's passing. We were reminiscing about him just last week.
We remember him as a close friend and a fellow retailer. He was a person of great wit and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was sympathetic to people's needs. Honest, direct, and gentle is how we would best describe him. He was always one of our greatest supporters.
As a business partner, he had a vision and never left any stone unturned. We will always remember the first time we met him when we opened a boutique in the old Simpson store downtown.
We will surely miss him. Our prayers are with you and the family in this time of loss and remembrance.
