MORTON CORWIN Obituary

CORWIN--Morton Allen, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend, and a genuinely good and kind human being, died on January 13, 2023 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Mort was born on February 8, 1929 in New York City. He loved playing sports while growing up, particularly baseball. Mort graduated from A.B. Davis High School in Mount Vernon in 1947 and then attended Cornell University. During his college years he majored in philosophy and twice hitchhiked across the country. He went on to attend Columbia Law School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, working in the JAG's office in Puerto Rico during the mid 1950s. Mort returned to New York, where he met his beloved wife, Carol Lee Corwin; they celebrated 61 years of happiness together last May. He worked in the clothing business before beginning work at Williams Real Estate Company in Manhattan in the late 1960s. He went on to work in real estate on his own and in partnerships, as a developer, manager and owner of properties in New York and elsewhere. He was a wise and careful investor as well as a hard worker, and he enjoyed much success throughout his career. During retirement he remained active in many ways, from extensive travel around the world with Carol to playing golf (with six Holes in One to his credit), to spending many happy hours with family and the wonderful network of friends in his and Carol's life. He was a champion bridge player and enjoyed the friends he played with, as well as the strategizing. Mort was a voracious reader, blessed with an intellectual curiosity that never dimmed, and he was a regular participant in discussion groups and adult education lectures well into his 90s. He had a true passion for justice and fairness, as well as for being kind and generous to others. He always looked out for the best interests of his extended family, and among many other things had an affinity for a good martini, blueberry pie a la mode, and what he would characterize as the exquisite pain of being a hard-core New York Mets fan since 1962. Mort is survived by his wife Carol; his son Bill and daughter-in-law Jennifer Rosner; his daughter Nancy and his son-in-law Joel Malina; his grandchildren Ben Malina, Hallie Malina, Sophia Corwin and Juliet Corwin, and his big brother Cy Corwin. He was deeply loved, and will be greatly missed. A funeral service will be held at Rye Community Synagogue, 200 Forest Avenue in Rye, New York at 10:30am on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Morton's memory to Racker www.racker.org or to Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech www.clarkeschools.org
