MORTON GLUCK

GLUCK--Dr. Morton. Dr. Morton Chester Gluck, a distinguished pulmonologist and devoted husband, stepfather, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2024 at the age of 92. Born in New York City on June 8, 1931, Mort was the cherished son of Joseph and Lena (Meyer) Gluck, and brother of Sandy Gluck. Morton was a devoted husband to Haralyn (Horn) Gluck; a loving stepfather to Meredith (Demian), Zach, and Jonny; an attentive dog dad to Kirby, Josie, and Pearl; and a doting grandfather to Griffin, Skylar, and Riley who affectionately knew him as Papa. He took great pride in his role as Papa, attending countless school plays, gymnastic meets, and dance performances. Additionally, he was a cherished uncle to Mitchell (Holly), Leslie, and Stacy. After completing his undergraduate degree at Duke University, Mort pursued his passion for medicine at NYU Medical School. He completed his internship and residency at Bellevue Hospital and later served as a captain in the Medical Corps stationed at the Pentagon. At Georgetown University Medical Center, Mort undertook a two- year fellowship in pulmonary medicine and then served as an Assistant Professor in the pulmonary division before returning to New York City in 1966. In New York, Mort established a Pulmonary Functional Laboratory at Metropolitan Hospital, before beginning a distinguished career in private practice (Lenox Hill Hospital). He continued in this role until he was 88 years young. Mort's passion for life extended beyond the realm of medicine. He found great joy in and excelled at hobbies such as photography and woodworking, and was a member of The Manhattan Miniature Camera Club. Mort was remarkably active, continuing to play tennis and pickleball well into his 80s. He embraced every opportunity for adventure and excitement. Mort cherished experiences with friends, and especially family. From great adventures traveling the world to the simple joy of Sunday night dinners with his step kids and grandchildren, Mort knew the value of appreciating the moment and using his time to the fullest. His warmth, wisdom, humor, and unwavering kindness and generosity touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Dr. Morton Gluck will be deeply missed by his family, friends, patients, colleagues, and all those whose lives he touched. His legacy of service and love will endure in the hearts of those who knew him best.
