I worked for Morty from 1991 to 1994, my first real job in public relations after long freelancing as a journalist. He always treated me fairly and gently and taught me well, largely by example, every inch a mentor. We went on to become friends over the next 30-plus years, and I took the opportunity to write about him extensively, so much so I all but turned into his publicist. I loved him as I've loved few others.
