MYRA GREEN Obituary

GREEN--Myra. Myra Green was born on February 11, 1947 in New York City, the daughter of Louis Goldenberg, eventual president of the Manhattan-based Wildenstein Gallery, and his gracious wife and fellow golf enthusiast Helen Goldenberg. Both Myra and her younger sister Barbara became accomplished classical pianists, attended New Rochelle public schools, and for many years enjoyed, with their friends, summers at camp Wi Co Su Ta in New Hampshire. In 1964, Myra enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania as an English major, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1968. She subsequently became one of the very few female members of the Yale Law School's class of 1971. Her 1970 marriage to her first husband, David Green, an aspiring physician, ended in divorce, but not until years after their sons Michael and Alexander were born. Myra's first job as a lawyer was at Proskauer Rose LLP in New York City. She and her husband then moved to Boston where, as an associate at the firm of Choate, Hall & Stewart LLP, she acted as the first general counsel to University Hospital, now Boston Medical Center. At Choate, Myra rose to become one of the earliest female partners of a major Boston law firm. Over the ensuing 20 years, she mentored many young lawyers, served a term as chair of the firm's health care law department, developed a national reputation for excellence in her specialty, and routinely won "best lawyer" honors from her peers. She did all this while working "part time" helping to raise her sons and her two stepdaughters, Audrey and Sarah from her marriage in 1987 to Jeffrey Heidt, also a partner at the Choate firm. Myra left Choate in 2004 to become the first general counsel to Health Dialog, an international health care disease management enterprise. Following the company's acquisition by a British insurer, she became General Counsel to DentaQuest, the management company for a large number of Delta Dental plans across the country. Myra and Jeff traveled extensively around the world but spent most of their summers with friends and family at their summer home in Chilmark on Martha's Vineyard. Myra loved long beach walks, seafood lunches in Menemsha, and the sensuous joy of swimming in the surf at Black Point Beach on the Island's south shore. She loved to play in the sand with her children and, in time, her nine grandchildren (all of whom called her "Ummi", which is Yiddish for "grandma"). In 2015 Myra and Jeff had a family home rebuilt on Jeff's family's lakefront property on Lake Ainslie, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. The pandemic prevented them from enjoying it as much as they would have liked, but they loved their visits to the property, savoring fresh air, lake breezes, the Cabot Trail, wildlife, and the company of friends and relatives. Myra was known to all as kind, warm, loving, smart, and classy-as-they-come, while remaining modest to a fault. She loved her life which, like those of her parents, was cut tragically short by a debilitating disease, but throughout the course of her illness she maintained an upbeat attitude, a smile for everyone, and a readily apparent love of her friends and family. She and Jeff moved to a retirement community in 2020 where Jeff remained by her side. Myra passed on June 21st of this year, in the company of her husband and family - listening to music she loved and surrounded by pictures of the people who loved her. She is survived by her husband Jeff, her children Michael Green and his wife Laura Carey, Alex Green and his wife Katie, Sarah Provance and her husband Alan, Audrey O'Shaughnessy and her husband Shannan, her sister Barbara Goldenberg, and her grandchildren Franklin, Rose, Martin, Olivia, Aiden, Ares, Rowan, Brianna, and Sadie. A celebration of Myra's life will be held at the Pierce House in Lincoln, MA, in July. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund, 34 Washington St., Suite 310, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481 or at curealz.org.

To Jeff, Audrey, Sarah, Alex , Michael and Barbara, All I could do was drop my head into my hands and cry like a baby today when at a watercolor painting class in Lincoln. We were outside Bemis Hall on a hill painting outside and I caught the name Myra at the next table. then The Pierce House a service that had taken place place.. I cried for the unfairness, the unthinkable.. when good people and awful things collide. Let's just say the obvious Myra never deserved this. It broke my heart in pieces today. To take care of a parent then fall victim to the same dreaded disease. Were all scared to death of this. My heart broke for her family, her sister,
. Let's just say this. Myra was the quality of human being that would put a sterling silver utensil in your hand when you mentioned you were serving something at your dinner party, would put a Renee Flemming CD that she owned in Christmas wrapping paper and your fancy bag when she knew you loved listening to her, put a full length fur coat over your arm on your way out the door. It's not the material cost, she was one of those humans who knew what was meant to be where and did what was needed to get it landed. It's empathy, compassion, I admire it, it's rare, we need more of it, you know it when it shows up. Myra had it. And that's all you need to know about someone. She had it. And to her family. Having taken care of a loved family member when an unthinkable disease happens. ..It's a job that's done by angels on earth. Angela and their broken hearts but they do it. That's the biggest love known on earth. Period. I send my hopes for all your comfort some peace to arrive ease your broken hearts
Maureen King cook, chauffer to high schools, stacker of dishwasher, but no folder of fitted sheets, but a dog walker when needed and a friend of Myra Green an honor and a priceless making all the difference. She loved her expanded family sent all the news about grandkids with pictures at Christmas. She was thrilled. And she had that. And her yoga on the island. I'm glad for that this sad day. Love to all of you, Maureen King Waltham

I'm so sad to read that Myra's gone. I met her at New Rochelle High School and we became fast friends. The last time I saw her was at our 50th reunion and she was beautiful and gracious and fun, just the way she's always been. One of my favorite memories was being driven to New York City with a couple of our other friends on a Saturday to go to art museums. Her dad would drive us and I can't remember the ones we went to but it was, in retrospect, such a treat and our wonderful good fortune to be able to do that. I will miss you, dear Myra, and I hope somehow that our paths cross again.

Myra was one of my two best elementary school friends. We were in school together for a summer in Montreux, Switzerland when we were 14 and she was one of the bridesmaids at my wedding. I am heartbroken to read this as the last time I saw her was at our 50th high school reunion. She was brilliant and kind and graceful and humble. I remember reading a term paper of hers while she was at Penn and was impressed that she used so many words I´d never even heard of. Another strong memory is of her so diligently practicing piano at their house on Barnard Rd, which I can still picture perfectly. Her piano teacher adored her. Everyone did. I´m terribly sad that I´ll never see her again.
