LASCHEID--Nancy. It is with profound sadness that the Board of Directors of the Neighborhood Health Clinic, Naples, FL, on behalf of its employees, volunteers and contributors, extend our condolences to the Lascheid family on the passing of the Clinic Co-founder, Nancy Lascheid RN, BSN. Nancy, and her late husband, Dr. William P. Lascheid, co- founded the Clinic in 1999, after Dr. Bill retired from his medical practice and Nancy from nursing. Nancy, being deeply spiritual, believed they were acting on prayer, "to give of themselves," by sharing their skills to help working, uninsured adults in Naples and throughout Collier County, FL, who had no access to medical insurance, State services or Federal programs. "Born from blood, sweat and tears," the Lascheids started from scratch in three donated, but dilapidated rooms, treating eight patients the very first day. Initially, Nancy believed the Clinic would address the pressing need successfully and close within three to five years. However, 23 years later, having expanded to a 32,000 square foot campus in 2021, the Clinic attended to over 11,000 patient visits, performing 28,000 procedures, delivered by a corps of 700 volunteers, validating the Lascheids' vision and fulfilling their goal to help the working poor. The baton for the Lascheids' altruistic mission passed to their daughter, Leslie Lascheid, who accepted the challenge in 2014, becoming CEO of the Clinic. Working side-by-side with them initially, she took the reins vowing to maintain the original concept to be the social safety net of safety nets for Collier County's underserved, providing patients with a medical home. Through the years, Nancy Lascheid's driving force to do good work in the community garnered attention in well over 100 media outlets. The conceptual model for the Clinic won her multiple honors at both State and National Levels; among them are Florida State Point of Light, Florida Medical Association Partners in Medicine, Hodges University Humanitarian, Naples Daily News Health Care Heroes, and Greater Naples Chamber Citizen of the Year. In addition, Nancy was named a Paul Harris Fellow and received PBS MAKERS, "Women Making a Difference in Florida." She was a founding member of the Florida Association of Free and Charity Clinics, serving on the Executive Board of Directors and Legislative Policy Committee. However, as one endeared with the personal conviction to live a purposeful life, the most significant point of pride is the 2002 National Jefferson Award for Public Service that Nancy shared with Dr. Bill. They were in life a seamless, loving team, now united once again. The Lascheids' legacy lives on, protected under Florida State Sovereign Immunity. As such, Neighborhood Health Clinic accepts no government funding, and relies completely on public support. For information and contribution assistance, call the Clinic at (239)261-6600, or visit
