NANCY SCHACHT Obituary

SCHACHT--Nancy Godfrey. Nancy Godfrey Schacht passed away on September 27, 2024, at the age of 90, at Kendal on Hudson in Sleepy Hollow, New York. Born on April 19, 1934, Nancy was known for her warm, loving, smart, and spirited personality, and for the deep personal connections she made with family, friends, and acquaintances throughout her life. Nancy attended Smith College, where she graduated in the Class of 1956, laying a foundation for her future endeavors as a scientist and an active member of various boards including the American Ballet Theatre, Planned Parenthood of New York City, and Smith College. Her community engagement also extended to volunteering for several major arts and social service organizations in both Indiana and New York. Nancy was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity in New York City and St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Columbus, Indiana, where she participated actively in the community. Nancy found her greatest joy in her family. She was a daily example of kindness, humility, and love. She embodied a unique blend of determination, courage, and humor that touched everyone around her. Whether you were a family member, an old friend, or someone who just met her, knowing Nancy was truly an honor. Nancy was a force. At the same time, she was a nurturing spirit who made the world a better place. She leaves behind countless stories that highlight the importance of character, values, loyalty, and manners. Nancy was the cornerstone of our family. We will strive each day to honor her memory and make her proud. Nancy is survived by her husband, Henry; her children, Jim Schacht (Sally), Laura Bilicic (George), Jane Porter (Greg), and Mary Schacht; her grandchildren, Katie and Henry Moray; William, Christopher, Henry, and Peter Bilicic; Allison, Samantha, Tom, and Julia Schacht; and her sister, Jane Godfrey.
