Nick popped in my door in Hyannis in early summer1970, a backpacker looking for a place to crash. It was a time of turmoil in America and I was just engaged in a heated exchange with a national guardsman about Vietnam. Sure man you can crash. Next morning we looked for job together flipped a coin for dishwasher offer. Hitched cross country end of summer. Various adventures. Left me in San Francisco gave me his boots. Wrote me in December about a great book he recommended lord of rings Tolkien. A year later we traveled to Belfast during troubles. Lived in Boston he drove cab. Good friend. Nick. Sad ...I thought Id see him again.

Nick was a fun friend and good neighbor. I will miss meeting him for impromptu happy hours at our local joint, the Tangled Vine. Also grateful that through Nick, I met a great friend - Susan!
