NICKOLAS VANMETER

VanMETER--Nickolas Michalogiannis, 35, of New York, New York, died Sunday, September 25, 2022, at his home. Nick grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, and graduated valedictorian of Archbishop Rummel High School, receiving a full scholarship to Louisiana State University. He graduated top of his class from LSU, where he double-majored in Mathematics and Physics, and received a Goldwater Scholarship. After achieving perfect SAT and GRE Physics scores, Nick went on to earn his Master's degree in Physics from Harvard University, where he received a National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship from the U.S. Department of Defense. He continued as a Ph.D. candidate in theoretical physics at Harvard, studying and teaching string theory, a framework for the unification of classical physics and quantum mechanics. Following his education, Nick became Vice President and Portfolio Manager for Harvard Management Company in Boston, helping manage Harvard University's endowment. He was then Head of Equities and Portfolio Manager at TPRV Capital in Boston. He currently worked as a Portfolio Manager at Garda Capital Partners in New York and was a highly- regarded leader in equity derivatives strategy and investment, most recently speaking at the Global Volatility Summit. Nick was an avid weight- training devotee and enjoyed biking and traveling adventures. A deeply caring person, his fun-loving, charismatic energy touched many lives, brought people together, and buoyed the spirits of those around him. He loved spending time with and supporting his cherished friends. He was also a language enthusiast, teaching himself multiple programming languages as well as Portuguese. Nick was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Debbie Van Meter of New Orleans and grandparents Bill and Mary Van Meter of Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Surviving Nick are his three aunts, Sheree (Nick) Raub of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Kaye (Walter) Norris of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Monica (Jerry) Mills of Evansville, Indiana; his uncle Mark Van Meter of Bowling Green, Kentucky and many cousins. Funeral services took place at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home in New Orleans on October 5, followed by interment at All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery. A private memorial event will be held in New York City on Monday, October 24.
