Octave Romary Obituary

1930 - 2017
Octave (O. Jules) Romary, 86, of Fenton, Missouri, a former Westport resident, died April 18 at his home. He was 86.

Born Dec. 18, 1930, in Yonkers, New York, he was the only son of the late Jules and Alice (Neary) Romary.

He was a 1948 graduate of Charles E. Gorton High School in Yonkers, a 1952 graduate of Georgetown University, and in 1973 completed the Stanford University Graduate School of Business Executive Program, where he served as class president.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1956 as a 1st lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers, including overseas duty during the Korean Conflict. He raised his family in Westport, and after 1993, had been a resident of Florida.

He was employed by Union Carbide Corp., retiring in 1993 after 36 years, serving as vice president and secretary of the corporation and director of investor relations.

He was a staff counselor at Camp Tohkomeupog in East Madison, New Hampshire, his favorite place.

He was a member of Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield and Old Marsh Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

He was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Darlene Fruge Romary. Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Suzanne Kortes Romary of Fenton; three children: William E. Romary of Thousand Oaks, California; Thomas G. Romary of Orinda, California; and Mary Romary Wender of Larchmont, New York; five grandchildren; two stepchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 13, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 17 Ann Ave., Valley Park, Missouri, and a Mass will also be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 22, at Church of the Assumption in Westport.

Memorials may be made to Georgetown University, 215 Wisconsin Ave., Washington, D.C., 20007, or to St. Patrick Church in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
