PAUL GONICK Obituary

GONICK--Paul, born July 5, 1930, in Brooklyn, passed away May 14, 2024 from heart failure, just months after the passing of his long-time love and wife, Angela. After his father's untimely passing, Paul and his two sisters, Jean and Susan, were raised by a single mother in humble circumstances. Paul graduated New York University with honors and Yale Medical School. He then joined the Air Force, serving as a captain and working at VA hospitals in Minnesota, New York, and Michigan and taught at medical schools, including Columbia University. While in New York, Paul met Angela, a nurse, on a blind date, and they married and eventually settled in suburban Philadelphia. There, Paul practiced as a urologist at Hahnemann Hospital and became a professor at Hahnemann Medical School, while raising his three children, Brian, Peter, and Julia. In retirement, Paul and Angela split time between Big Sky, Montana and Manhattan. Throughout his career, Paul helped thousands of patients through surgeries and clinical practice, as well as educated the next generation of doctors as a professor and by publishing over 40 papers. Outside his work life, he dedicated himself to countless home projects, loving his children and then grandchildren, and pursuing his many interests, including skiing, hiking, biking, general scientific knowledge, and food. Paul is survived by his children and their families: Brian and wife Dawn and their children Liam and Katherine; Peter and wife Edie Adams and their children Elena and Evan; and Julia and husband Tim Wike and their children Sarah, Lily, and Ben. He is also fondly remembered by his loving caregivers Beulah Hamilton and her daughter Tia. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Big Sky Community Organization, www.bsco.org
