PETER COSTER Obituary

COSTER--Peter, 71, died December 11, 2010. He is survived by Sonya, his wife of 51 years; three sons, Daniel and his wife Margaret, Nicholas and his partner Dean, and Patrick and his wife Eleisa; and two grandchildren, Kai and Logan. It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of this extraordinary man. We will always be buoyed by the greatness of his spirit, lifted by the memory of his kindness, and inspired by his consideration and compassion, which brought so much joy and laughter to all the people who were fortunate enough to know him. Peter was born in South London, served in the UK Intelligence Corps, and had an illustrious business career highlighted by his 20 years with Marsh & McLennan Companies, from which he retired in 2005. During his time at Marsh & McLennan, Peter led the firm's consulting operations through a period of remarkable and rapid growth, and was instrumental in building the broad, market-leading consulting capabilities the firm offers today. His legacy at the firm is that of an exceptional person who was a strong and transformational leader with a kind heart and a wonderful sense of humor. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Contributions in Peter's memory can be made to the Foundation Fighting Blindness. Peter was a trustee of the organization, and its cause remains dear to his family.

To Sonia and the family. The news came as a great shock to Sue and I and we send you our heartfelt thoughts and sympathy. Peter was a very special person, to whom I personally owed much for the career opportunities he gave me. Always fun, a great sense of humour and utterly unselfish.A real inspiration at all times and greatly missed. Ian Farman.

To the Coster family,
You have my deepest sympathy on the death of Peter. I know how important family is to all of you, and that is a testament to his love and caring.
I consider it a great honor to have benefitted from Peter’s unique character, generosity, and sense of humor. I cherish many warm memories of birthday parties, weddings and holiday get-togethers shared with your family. While Peter’s passing is a painful loss to all that knew and loved him, there is so much he gave that will last forever.
Love,
Laura
