PETER HERMAN

HERMAN--Peter Windley. It is with deep sadness and a profound sense of loss that the partners of Milbank LLP mourn the passing of their dear friend and former partner Peter Windley Herman. Peter joined Milbank in 1970. He was elected partner in 1981 and retired in 2008. A well-regarded and respected lawyer, Peter advised clients across all sectors of the real estate industry. He became head of the firm's Real Estate Practice in 1991, a role he held for 18 years. He also served as the partner liaison with Milbank's lawyer alumni and led the firm's theater group. Peter loved the stage. Born and raised in New York City's Washington Heights, Peter held degrees from Columbia University and Columbia Law School. Prior to law school, he served proudly as an officer in the United States Navy. Peter was an active member of New York City's business community, receiving the Downtown-Lower Manhattan Association award for 40 years of service. His community service included serving as chair of the Regional Plan Association for 13 years; the RPA subsequently established an endowed chair in Peter's memory. A kind, genuine and beloved man, Peter will be fondly remembered at Milbank. We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Alice and their children.
