PHILIP BEEKMAN Obituary

BEEKMAN--Philip. Philip Emmet Beekman, born 3 October 1931, passed away on 5 February 2022 at 90 years old. Born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey to Chester Carlyle and Madeline Davis Beekman, Philip attended St. Benedicts Preparatory School in Newark, NJ and was a 1953 graduate of Dartmouth College in Hanover New Hampshire. He was married to Nancy Bush of Verona, NJ for 50 years. They had four children: Elizabeth, Leslie, Philip, and Nancy. A successful businessman, Philip began his career with the Colgate Palmolive Company in an entry level position directly out of college. In his 23 years with Colgate, he rose through the company and became President of the International Division. During his time at Colgate, Philip and his family moved around the world to various postings in Canada, Puerto Rico, and Argentina. After Colgate, he took a position at Joseph E. Seagram and Sons Ltd. as the President and COO, where he remained for nine years. In his final career venture, Philip became the CEO of Brooks and Hooks SuperX drug stores before retirement. He also served on multiple boards, as his business acumen was sought after by many. Philip was a longtime member of the Metropolitan Opera Club and an ardent enthusiast of the performing arts. He was also actively involved in charitable giving throughout his life. He was an avid golfer, skier, hockey player, runner and sportsman. Providing for his family was always a priority for Philip, ensuring his wife and children were well taken care of. He developed lifelong friendships with classmates from high school and college as well as with colleagues, that he held dear until his death. Friends and associates gravitated to Philip's charming, fun-loving personality, quick wit, and generosity. Philip touched many lives, and his stories will live on through his family. He was pre- deceased by his wife, Nancy, his son, Philip and his sister, Marie Addis. He is survived by his three daughters, Elizabeth Beekman, Leslie Carter, and Nancy Beekman, son-in-law Jim Shirley, as well as his five grandchildren, Jameson, Sarah, Maxfield, Bradley, and Philip. Over 40 years of traveling the world skiing, passionate for live musical performances, longstanding member of the Opera Club Metropolitan Opera Lincoln Center, rare wines and their history, having an extraordinary palette could in earlier times to identify year size of bottle and maker. Love running regularly and negotiation in industries ahead of his time. Filled with smiles, fun, lots of energy ... courages to live on the float, provide for his living children so their lives could be secured while he was present on this earth ... never wanting to miss a moment of living life fully! Is most exciting to have all the physical and emotional souvenirs of the decades with Pip!

Our thoughts and prayers are with Phil's family. Phil and his wife joined us on two biking trips in the Pacific Northwest in the late 90's. This photo was taken in 1996 on a biking trip to the Grand Tetons. Phil brought so much joy, energy and enthusiasm to all on the trip. Such joie de vivre! Forever grateful to have met Phil and his wife.

Betsy that, with our children, had become a good friend of us, Essie and Minnie receive our sincere and deepest condolences. Phil has been a very close and stimulating friend and was kind enough to include us in many of your family events while we were new in the country, having left our relatives on the other side of the ocean. The hours we spent together in running and training generated very enriching exchanges.
Phil, many will miss you a lot, may you rest in Peace.

Fun. Active. Caring. Considerate. Charitable. And so much more. Words alone can not capture the essence of this truly remarkable man. Betsy, Essie, Minnie and your kinds ... how blessed you were to have him in your lives for this long. Rest In Peace, Dear Pop. You will be sorely missed.
