RAYMOND SHERMAN Obituary

SHERMAN-- Dr. Raymond L., aged 89, died on September 26, 2025 of complications from lymphoma at New York Hospital. Ray was a proud graduate of Tilden High School in Brooklyn and Columbia College. He received his medical degree from SUNY Downstate. He dedicated his life to the clinical practice and teaching of medicine, serving as an attending physician at New York Presbyterian Hospital for more than five decades and as a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College. Ray is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Loni Sherman, his loving daughters, Robin Sherman (Rob Allen) and Jackie Sherman (Mike Held), his cherished granddaughter, Mae Held, his devoted brother, Ed Sherman, his brother- and sister-in-law, Victor and Susan Temkin, and his nephews Jeremy, Peter, and Andrew Temkin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irving and Beatrice Sherman. He will be remembered by family, friends, colleagues, patients, and students for his wit, his intellectual curiosity, and his warm smile. Services will be held at Plaza Jewish Community Chapel, 630 Amsterdam Avenue, New York, NY, on Monday, September 29, 2025 at 12:30pm, with private burial at Farband Cemetery, Morris, CT, near where Ray and Loni spent joyful summers and weekends over the last 55 years. Shiva will be observed at Ray and Loni's home. For shiva times and information, please contact Jackie Sherman via email at: [email protected]. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Dr. Sherman can be made to the Rogosin Institute, a kidney care and research center affiliated with Weill Cornell/NewYork-Presbyterian.

It is with great sorrow that I note the passing of my mentor, professor, and advisor during my years at CUMC and training at NYH. He also cared for my mother during the 12 years that she was on dialysis. He was also a trooper during the Libby Zion case which changed medicine forever.
