RICHARD FITZGERALD Obituary

FITZGERALD--Richard P.,

a renowned interior designer, dies at 80. Richard FitzGerald of Boston and Osterville, MA and Palm Beach, died peacefully at home on September 14. "Mr. Fitz," an inveterate collector of antiques and decorative arts, loved style and glamour and was always impeccably turned out with a Scottish Terrier by his side. Richard was born in Lawrence, MA. He studied interior design at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston before becoming House Beautiful magazine's interior decorating editor and then East Coast and European editor for Architectural Digest in New York. Richard returned to Boston in 1973 to open his eponymous design studio focusing on high-end residential interior design. His work has been published in many prestigious design publications including Traditional Home, House & Garden, House Beautiful, and New England Home. In 2007, he was inducted into the New England Design Hall of Fame. Richard is survived by his lifetime partner, David Webster and a brother, Gerald T. FitzGerald of Wells, ME and West Palm Beach, FL. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Robert P. FitzGerald and Martin M.
