Sorry to be reading this news. Rick and I were friends freshman year at UMass. Lived at Cance Southwest and travelled to Texas that year to work with my brother in Houston. My family and I remember him fondly. He was mature well beyond his years... calm, steady and firm in his manner in a very good way. We reconnected a few years back - so nice to chat with him almost as if no time had passed (in spite of his funny accent). My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Kavin Bloomer `82

Rick was one of the most interesting people I ever met and a very good friend. I will never be able to think about my time at UMass Amherst without thinking of him. Stunned by this news and my condolences to his family.

Frank, Christine, Cheryl & The Children ~ I'm awfully sorry to hear about my friend, Rick. When I got dropped off at UMASS in September, 1978, I didn't know a soul. It didn't take very long to form a long-standing bond with him. We shared the same passion for many of the same things, along with the rest of our gang. I shared a Cape summer house (the size of a shoebox) with him and Doc (Dave Sanderson). We've lost regular contact over the years, but as true friendships go, you can go a long time without talking to each other, but that friendship doesn't fade a bit. Thank goodness for e-mailing as I was able to feel his joy when he described his life with his beloved family. My heart pains greatly and I'm sorry I cannot make the trip this week. ~ Please find comfort that he was a "big" part of many people lives. ~ Rest Easy My Friend Rick ~ Love Kevin
