RICHARD JEFFREY

JEFFREY--Richard Raught, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2021 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida just shy of his 91st birthday. Son of the late L. Robert and Mabel Jeffrey, Rick grew up in Montclair and New Vernon, New Jersey. He was a longtime Montclair resident with his wife and family. He spent summers with his family on Lake Champlain at Corlear Bay Club, where he also met his beloved wife, Frances C. Jeffrey. Rick graduated from The Hill School and Williams College where he was captain of the men's swimming team. At Williams, he and his brother, Bob, won the New England Intercollegiate Bridge Tournament, qualifying for the National Championship in Chicago, where they placed third. He was a champion swimmer, winning several state and national titles and competed in the 1956 Olympic Trials in the 200m breaststroke. After his naval service in Long Beach, California, he graduated from Stanford Business School and began his long career on Wall Street. He started at Scudder, Stevens & Clark, as an oil analyst before moving to The Ford Foundation where he became a Portfolio Manager. He continued to manage portfolios at CJ Lawrence before co-founding Vilas-Fischer Associates, a money management firm based in New York. He was a longtime member of the Montclair Golf Club and served on the board of Annin Flag for many years. In addition to his wife Frances, Rick is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Jeffrey Laino (Peter), and his sons Richard R. Jeffrey, Jr. (Beckany), John B. (Tucker) Jeffrey (Carolyn) and Robert C. Jeffrey (Maddie). He was adored by his grandchildren; Hannah, Isabelle, Charlotte, Ryan and Lucy Jeffrey, Kiki, Victoria and Peter Laino and Jack, Griffin and Halley Jeffrey. He is also survived by his brother L. Robert Jeffrey, Jr. and his wife Susan. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
