Dearest Edwinna, I was so sorry to learn of Richard's passing. The world has lost a true Renaissance man. What wonderful memories I have, and will cherish. Now he's with Alice and Jack, and heaven is lined with a beautiful collection of art. Until we all meet again, my love and condolences, Edwinna, Joan, Mary and family.

Dear Edwina, I was stunned to hear the news today of Richard's passing. It brought back many memories of his lively personality, he bright smile, and his great taste in pocket silks. I was always happy when I saw him (you too!) at a party and now feel terrible about your loss. I send you and yours my sincerest condolences. You and he are in my prayers. John.

We will miss Richard Kaplan so much. It is hard to speak of him in the past tense because he was and remains in our memories a vibrant, dynamic, warm and passionate human being, always curious and involved. In addition to his own work as an architect, he continued to learn about and support projects and causes that were important to him. His intellect, charm and his infectious smile made him an irresistible host and friend, interested in people and witty and urbane to the end. He found his match in Edwina Sandys, his wife and the love of his life, whom he admired above all others. Our hearts and deepest condolences go out to her and the extended family.

I'm terribly saddened with this news. He was a strong force in my early professional life - honorable, generous, enthusiastic and idealistic. He was a joy to be around.
I worked for and with Richard 1967-72, first in his Westbeth office and then opening the West 52nd St office. Outstanding amongst the many projects we worked on was the 240 unit middle income Crown Gardens in Crown Heights. It was Richard's original conception and it was I who proudly carried it through, from design to completion and the 1975 Bard Award.
Thanks specifically to Richard, I have fond recollections of those productive years...

My condolences to The Kaplan Family. May the God of all comfort be with all of you as you cope with such sorrow. Please find comfort in the memories you have of Ruchard and may they help to ease the pain you are feeling.

The first time I met Richard was at the British Embassy for a dinner in honor of Sir Winston S. Churchill. That meeting left an indelible mark of me; I remember Richard grabbing me by both shoulders and looking at me straight on and saying, "believe in yourself, you must believe in yourself." He gave me a great boost in my confidence and I shall carry that will me, forever. Thank you, Richard.
