RICHARD OLDENBURG Obituary
The International Council of The Museum of Modern Art is greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Richard E. Oldenburg on April 17. Dick was director of MoMA from 1972 to 1994, and an Honorary Member of the Museum's International Council since 1995. He will long be remembered for his distinguished leadership of the Museum during his tenure. Dick was a master of words who spoke and wrote beautifully. His International Council friends from all over the world cherish their memories of his participation in our meetings and trips. Our deepest sympathies are extended to his wife Mary Ellen Oldenburg and his brother, Claes Oldenburg. Richard was such an interesting knowledgeable person and I am thankful to have known him and for the help he gave me several times figuring out things. He was conversant in not only art but many topics and life itself.
