RICHARD SCHWARZ Obituary
It is with profound sadness that the Department of OB/ GYN at Maimonides Medical Center announce that on Thursday, November 9th, Dr. Richard H. Schwarz passed away. Dr. Schwarz was a giant in the field; a past president of ACOG, the New York Obstetric Society and the Philadelphia Obstetric Society. In addition to serving as Chair of Obstetrics at SUNY Downstate and at Methodist Medical Center, he was also Dean, Provost and President of SUNY Downstate. He ended his career at Maimonides as Vice-Chair. He was an esteemed colleague and a revered teacher. Most importantly he remained a friend to all he trained. He will be sorely missed.

- Having met Dick Schwarz, over 35 years ago, while a young physician at Downstate, I was so impressed by his great knowledge and dedication to medicine. Toward the latter part of his career at Downstate, we shared a ride together, following a student teaching conference at the Waldorf Astoria. He told me that he would not retire - hobbies were not in his perspective - His love of medicine was his life!
