ROBERT EHRENBARD Obituary

EHRENBARD--Robert. Robert "Bob" Ehrenbard died peacefully at home at age 98. He was predeceased by his wife of six decades, Lila Ehrenbard; the companion of his later years, Judge Miriam Cedarbaum; and his sister, Rosalind Dondes. He leaves behind sons Rick and Dan (Coco Dupont); granddaughters Natalie (Boris Draschoff), Roxane, and Erica (Zachary Steinheiser); four nieces and a nephew. Bob was born to Polish immigrants and grew up in Lower Manhattan. He graduated Townsend Harris High School at age 15, then from the University of Vermont and earned a law degree from Harvard. He clerked for Judge Edward Dimock (SDNY) before devoting over 60 years to Kelley Drye & Warren LLP. As a Senior Litigation Partner, he broke barriers and set legal precedents. He was especially proud of his work for Bungee Corp, FFM, playwright Frank Gilroy, and pro-bono clients in under-served communities. Bob's lifelong commitment to public service began when he put his college education on hold to enlist in the Navy, serving on the Pacific Front during WWII. As a young lawyer in the 60's he represented activists in the segregated South with the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, who honored him in 2009 with the Segal-Tweed Founders Award for his 50 plus years of dedication to civil rights. Services will be held at Plaza Jewish Community Chapel, 630 Amsterdam Ave., NY, NY at 12:00 Noon, Sunday 29 October.
