ROBERT KAUFMAN Obituary
95, of Scarsdale, NY, passed away on October 30, 2016. He leaves his devoted wife of 65 years, Susan Sanger Kaufman, his sons, Peter S. Kaufman and James H. Kaufman, his granddaughters Maddie Kate and Ruby Lee, and his daughters-in-law Theresa and Teresa. He was a graduate of the Horace Mann School Class of 1938 and of Columbia College Class of 1942 where he was Phi Beta Kappa and a member of the Senior Society of Sachems. Bob was also coxswain of the Columbia Varsity Crew. In the Navy from 1942 to 1946, he served as Communications Officer aboard a Destroyer Escort. Bob graduated from Yale Law School in 1948 where he was a member of Corbey Court. Starting as an associate with Gale, Bernays, Falk & Eisner, he became Assistant General Counsel of the DuMont Broadcasting Corporation, followed by many years as Vice President and General Attorney for the American Broadcasting Company. He frequently said that no one enjoyed working for a living more than he did. Bob was profiled in Who's Who in America and was an enthusiastic golfer, a great fan of football Giants and Camp Kennebec. Son of Gertrude Popper and Ernst B. Kaufman, he was predeceased by his brothers Edwin P. and William E. Donations can be made to Columbia University and designated for Men's Rowing. https://giving.columbia.edu

Dear Sue, Jim and Teresa, and Peter and Teresa -- and of course the "little" Kaufmans,
My heart goes out to all of you at this sad sad time. Bob was the BEST -- always warm, kind and witty. He and Sue have been especially kind to me in the past seven years since I lost my husband, Steven, and I treasure our dinners at Sunningdale. We'll continue! The Kaufmans are the Grunow's last connection to those "boys in the boat" from Columbial, and I feel so fortunate to have gotten to know Bob better in these last years. I send lots of love to you all.
