Robert Schafer m.d. was my parents doctor and myself and my family....even my mother in law...l must say he was an excellent physician and a doctor with a heart of gold...each time my parents had major health issues..he was there for them and me...each time he called me and with compassion, kindness and extraordinary knowledge he explained the situation to me..always gave the best advice... and if it was not his forte..he always recommended a doctor at the hospital that could be of help....l could write the 20 times or more that he came through for my family in the most difficult of circumstances.....and l bless him wherever he may be....he also taught my brother when he was a student at Cornell medical school.....l cannot say enough about this exemplary human being and doctor......let him rest in peace.....God bless him ....

Sending our deepest sympathies to Mary Jeanne, Robert Jr., Esperance, Merrill and Robert Michael. Bob was a master clinician and extraordinary teacher, whose keen intellect, joy in life and wit were evident to all. Bob was warm, compassionate and a most generous friend and mentor. He embraced and promoted his trainees and junior colleagues. Most importantly, he was a magnificent father to Robert Jr and Esperance and loving husband to his cherished Mary Jeanne.
All our love, Franklin Marsh Jr, MD and Deborah Campbell Marsh, MD

For many years he cared for me and he was a wonderful human being. I especially recall our many conversations about opera and classical music and I enjoyed seeing him at some of the Rockefeller University concerts. I will miss him.

We will always have wonderful memories of Bob, starting with his quietly powerful intellect and deep culture at WYBC and Yale; then our happy get-togethers with you both in New York and New Haven over the ensuing decades. And I'm certain there are thousands of patients who are profoundly grateful for his medical care. Love, Paul & Mimi
