ROSE JUN Obituary

JUN--Rose Marie,

Born November 3, 1928, Cedar Rapids, IA; died November 4, 2016, New York City. Parents: Henrietta Hanzal, Josef Jun. After studying Classical Voice at Coe College and University of Michigan, and opera in Rome on Fulbright, she went on to become the quintessential New Yorker, loving every minute of it. She was a hugely successful studio pop singer, working with America's legendary popular composers. Her life was rich, joyful, and generous. Many loved her and will miss her deeply: Gabriela and Claudia Marx, Laurel and Daniela, Merle, all The Lance Hayward Singers, Jun family: Carol, Joseph, Connie; Charlene Wilson and Mayrie Bernstein. She was a very bright light in the world.

A great friend. A great talent!

January 29, 2017

We were so sorry to learn that Rosie has left us. We met Rosie as we began to work on committees at Screen Actors Guild (SAG) in NYC. I was later privileged to serve with Rosie on the SAG Board here in the NY. Rosie's service to singers and all other performing artists happened across all our unions: SAG, AFTRA, Actors' Equity and even the Actors Federal Credit Unioin! What a talent, what a wit, what a gal! We are so fortunate to have counted her as a friend and we are so happy to be able to still hear in on the CDs from her early recording sessions. Our sincere sympathy to her family and friends.

Rosie was my cousin. My dad's sister's daughter. I was very proud of her when she sang on tv with the Ray Charles Singers on the Perry Como Show. She sang many commercial jingles especially in cigarette ads when they were still on tv. Other jingles of hers included: Chiquita Banana ('don't put bananas in the refrigerator. No, no, no, no') and Clairol ('Is it true blondes have more fun?'), I even saw her as a school crossing guard doing a Depends commercial. She really laughed about that one.
I looked up to my cousin and am very sad that she has left us.

I have posted 2 photos here that will make all of us smile as we think of Rosie. The things written here by each person are such a reflection of the love and warmth Rosie gave out to all of us. It is quite a shock to not have her here, because she was so much herself, and so full of vibrant, rich life right up to the last moment. She did it right. And she would love reading every word each person has written!

"Rosebud" as my father used to call her met my father, Bill Mehegan, while they were both graduate students at the University of Michigan. She was a mainstay and part of our extended family since before I was born, 62 years ago and always a companion at Thanksgiving and Christmas; she has always been a part of my life, and her passing has left me grievously wounded, but so grateful to have known and loved her. She was the last direct connection I had to my deceased parents . . . and I will miss her terribly. Love you, Rosebud.

So very sorry to hear this news that Rosie has leflt us. I met her very early on in my active involvement with AFTRA and saw her regularly even tho we lived and worked on different coasts. Her caring and dedication to the Union (AFTRA at that time...and we saw each other regularly at the National Conventions and National Board Meetings... there was a great deal more face-to-face interaction with the singer membership in those days. We dealt with issues in our singer caucuses at convention, at W&W, and at negotiations..she worked hard for our community - her activity with work had begun to slow but not her caring and her involvement. God bless her...so glad to have known her.

I have just learned of Rose Marie's passing. She was a member of the AFTRA NY Local Board when I first started at the union. She was tireless advocate for singers and all union members, and a calm reasoned voice during debates. And wicked funny with a quick wit. So sorry to hear of her passing, but thankful for having had the honor to know her. Those of us who knew her and watched her at work loved and respected her. May her memory be of comfort to her family and friends, and may they be proud of the legacy of this wonderful lady.

as a jingle singer, I got to know her. She was great. She was out of the old guard that sang on live tv shows. She was nothing but encouraging, positive. It was great to see her on sessions

When we talked about 'the shoulders on which we stand', we were talking about hers. Condolences to her family and wide circle of friends.

It was a true honor to know Rosie...to serve on the AFTRA board beside her, to share the passion for fairness...and to invite fun into our activism. She will always be an inspiration. Brava, friend.
Love to all who love her.

I am so sorry to find out about this so late. I served with Rosie on the AFTRA Board for many years. She was an intelligent and feisty lady, besides being a wonderful singer. I just listened to her sing "A Song of Social Significance" on You Tube. She always was a fighter for social justice and gave back to her community for decades. I will miss her. My deep sumpathy to her close friends and family. We all loved her.

I just learned of Rosie's death a few days ago. She and Lillian Clark Oliver mentored me back in the 80's when I was a young singer looking to get involved with SAG and AFTRA to fight for what singers needed. She was always there to help when you needed her. What a bright positive spirit she had!

I am so sad to hear that she is gone. I send my sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to Rosie's family and friends.

Mayree should be MAYREE, no I in her name. I am Rosie's cousin, Mayree's older sister - FRAN Hanzel Johnson.
You told me that Rosie was cremated. In order to publish her obituary in the Cedar Rapids newspaper, I will need the name and address of the place that did the cremation.
Sorry I have lost your name and telephone number. Rosie liked and trusted you as a friend and as an executor. With many thanks Sincerely

To the Jun Family: My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
