RUBY SENIE

SENIE--Ruby T., PhD. Dr. Ruby Tomberg Senie passed away peacefully on September 26th, 2023 at the age of 87, following a long and distinguished career as a scientist, researcher, public health nurse, and educator. Beloved sister of Sally and the late Constance, loving mother of David and Daniel, adoring grandmother of Cordelia, she was a perpetual student, teacher and author, and a great lover of the opera, theater, and classical music. She received a BS from Cornell University (1957), BSN from Cornell School of Nursing (1975), MA from Teachers College (1978), and Ph.D. from Yale University Dept. of Epidemiology and Public Health (1984). Over the course of her career, Ruby was director of the Dept. of Community Health at Beth Israel, an assistant professor of the Dept. of Community Medicine at Mount Sinai, a senior epidemiologist in the Women's Health and Fertility branch at the CDC in Atlanta, an Associate Epidemiologist of Breast Surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering, a seminar leader in epidemiology at Cornell University Medical School, and an Associate Professor of Public Health at the Mailman School at Columbia University. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation or the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. A memorial service will be held later this fall.
