RUTH HOCHBERG

HOCHBERG--Ruth (nee Bodenstein), age 83, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, cousin and steadfast friend died peacefully on July 20th. Born in Brooklyn, NY to Bess and Jack Bodenstein, Ruth was a devoted and loving daughter and wife. She married Lewis (Buzz) Hochberg in 1963. They had a close and affectionate marriage and were at each others side every day since they first met on the beach in Westhampton in 1962. Ruth is survived by her husband Buzz, children Debbie (Lloyd) Khaner, Ira Hochberg, and Jon (Katherine) Hochberg, and granddaughters Grace, Lucy, and Zoe, all of whom she loved deeply and to whom she devoted her life. Ruth enjoyed reading the New York Times, doing the Sunday crossword (which she could complete quickly in pen!) and snuggling up in a chair and reading novels. She had a wonderful sense of style and loved being surrounded by interesting and beautiful objects. Ruth was wicked smart, had a great sense of humor and a wonderful laugh! She was a whiz at mahjong, canasta and gin and always wore her trademark Clinique Aromatics Elixir. She also maintained perfectly manicured nails in black polish. Ruth loved making others happy and was there for everyone and even kept an overflowing snack drawer for any child that happened to visit her home. Ruth loved spending time with her family, but also remained close with her friends from Camp Allegro and Rockville Centre, with whom she could talk, reminisce and become nostalgic. Ruth will be terribly missed, as will be her inviting smile, warmth and generosity of spirit. In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association. The funeral will be private. Shiva will be held on Friday, July 22nd from 4-8pm at 515 E. 72nd Street, 3rd floor in New York City.
