SAMUEL NEWHOUSE Obituary
The Trustees and staff of The Metropolitan Museum of Art mourn the passing of Si Newhouse, dear friend and devoted supporter of The Met for more than four decades. Through his generosity and leadership--both personally and in his roles as Chairman of Conde Nast and Director of the Samuel I. Newhouse Foundation--the Museum's spring Costume Institute exhibitions and The Met Gala have been sponsored by Conde Nast for 20 years. In addition, the Samuel I. Newhouse Foundation supported the renovation of The Costume Institute space, which was renamed the Anna Wintour Costume Center. The foundation also established an endowed fund that has enabled the publication of numerous catalogues. The Met's exhibitions and scholarship have benefited greatly from his support, and his legacy will be honored by generations to come. Our hearts go out to his wife Victoria and to his entire family.
