SAMUEL POLK

POLK--Samuel Salvage. A much loved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother Samuel Salvage Polk, 87, of Hobe Sound, FL died peacefully at his home on January 31, 2025 surrounded by his family. Sam was born on October 12, 1937, the son of Katherine Salvage and Frank Lyon Polk. Raised in New York City, he spent most of his life in the New York area living in Bedford, the City and spending his summers on Fishers Island before retiring to Hobe Sound, FL. A graduate of Trinity College and a member of St. Anthony Hall, Sam earned his JD from the University of Virginia Law School where he served on the Virginia Law Review and was a member of the honor society, the Order of the Coif. After serving in the U.S. Army, Sam spent a year traveling in Europe and studying at the Union Theological Seminary. A partner at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, Sam spent the majority of his career serving as a member of the Trusts and Estates practice representing many prominent clients. After retiring from Milbank, Sam was tapped to head and serve in family offices of well-known American families. Community and service were important to Sam. He served as Chairman of the New York Community Trust as well as on several boards, including the Hospital of Special Surgery - Trustee Emeritus and on the board of the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. Lucky enough to grow up in the 1950s when New York City was the heart of the baseball universe, Sam was a lifelong Brooklyn Dodgers fan. He also loved the game of golf and with his keen wit and humor was a connoisseur of the practical joke. Sam was happiest when he was with his family. Sam is survived by his wife of 55 years Anne Page Homer, sons Thomas Salvage Polk (Catherine), Samuel Homer Polk (Phoebe). Grandchildren: William Earthman, Catherine Page, Tabitha Aldrich, Samuel Knox, and brother William Mecklenburg Polk. Sam was predeceased by his brother Frank Lyon Polk. Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service to be held at 11am, Thursday, June 5 at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, Bedford, NY.
