SAUL RUDES Obituary

RUDES--Saul (1922-2018)

Saul died peacefully in his library among his beautifully bound books which he treasured and considered his friends. He had a life full of family love, friends, his passion for politics and advocacy for social justice. Saul would have been 96 in June. Saul was born in Brooklyn to Pearl and Leo Issac Rudes, who came to this country penniless. They worked and started a textile business, and owned real estate. Each son had the opportunity to attend college. Saul entered City College at age 16, majoring in Civil Engineering. After graduating, Saul joined his brothers, Sidney, Al, and George in the family's textile business. He soon realized that the business wasn't for him and that he wanted to be a lawyer. Saul worked his way through New York Law School, graduated in 1956, and was a member of the Law Review. While there he tutored his fellow classmates to help them pass the tough New York State Bar Exam. Saul became the family's lawyer, but his favorite practice area was election law with all its intricacies and technicalities. His election work for liberal candidates was always free of charge. Saul is survived by his devoted and adoring wife of 70 years, Gloria, his daughters, Amy (Tom), Jane (David), his son Adam (Lucy), five grandchildren, his youngest brother, George (Maria), three nieces and seven nephews, all of whom he was immeasurably proud. Funeral services from the Frank E. Campbell "The Funeral Chapel" 1076 Madison Ave. (81st) Tuesday, April 3rd at 11:30am and a reception to follow.

ronnie said it all: saul was a kind, generous, caring person who was always there for our family when needed. He and gloria were a golden couple and once upon a time in Sea gate we shared a million laughs and made happy memories.

This is late and I apologize. Saul was an amazing man, so smart, and outrageously generous. Many of us were beneficiaries of his largess. And I hope like me they're filled with appreciation and many smiles.

Hi Saul, It was such a pleasure knowing you and assisting you at the law firm. I learned so much from you and your jokes were the best! You were always such a gentleman. I wish I had the chance to see you and I hope you will still be able to have your toasted grilled cheese with tomato on rye! Love, Drew

Hi Dad. I don't want you to worry about Mom. I will do my very best to take care of her and keep her safe. Rose will be with her and I know she will do her utmost as she always has. I know you were listening to my speech and I wanted to make you proud. I realize it was difficult to rest with a lot going on, but now it's time to relax. P.S I heard you tell me to button my shirt and tie my tie.
