SAUL ZABAR

ZABAR--Saul. It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the the peaceful passing of Saul Zabar. He was surrounded by his family. Saul was a giant of a man who, at the ripe age of 97, leaves behind a legacy of unique proportion. A loving husband to Carole for decades, the beloved father of three children,Annie, Rachel and Aaron, and four grandchildren, Casey Avery, Lucas, and Harrison. He also leaves behind the thousands of adoring employees who came to love Saul, the patriarch of Zabar's whose unusual style of leadership was endearing. And of course the millions of customers who came to Zabar's for nourishment which included seeing Saul constantly walking the floors of his family store: making sure that everything met his demanding standards.... that the bagels were fresh, the coffee was roasted perfectly, and the smoked salmon was the best in town. Saul was truly one of a kind with a unique personality. Loving and demanding, Saul could not help but to strive for perfection in everything he did. And for sure he did it his way. We will profoundly miss his company. But he will forever be in our hearts and minds. And he will live on in the spirit of Zabar's.
