Seldon Taylor James Jr.

JAMES--Seldon Taylor, Jr., 81, of New York City, East Hampton, NY, and East Dover, VT, died peacefully on October 19 in his East Hampton home attended by his beloved wife, Linda Brady James. Survived also by his daughter Stephanie Brady James, DVM, Dipl. A.C.Z.M. and her partner Marcia Lynn Arland; son Seldon (Jamie) Taylor James, III, and his wife Deena Marie Del Zotto; daughter Alexandra Minnie James Reed and her husband Andrew Lawrence Reed; grandchildren Sarah Jordan James, Nadja James, Avery Etta Reed and Harriet Naomi Reed; and sister Emma Mabel James Hackett. Born August 19, 1926 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Seldon attended Amherst College in Massachusetts, served in the US Navy in World War II, traveled extensively as a wool trader, then joined Allen and Company before becoming an independent investment banker in New York and a Director of CPAC Inc of Rochester, NY. He loved woodworking, gardening, tinkering in his East Hampton basement, and taking long walks in the woods in Vermont. He valued his friends, adored his children, treasured his grandchildren, and most of all cherished his Linda. Together, Seldon and Linda shared a 45 year love affair filled with travel, adventure, and good food. He was Lindas Viejo, a gifted mentor to family and friends, and a gentleman extraordinaire. Services to be held in East Hampton at St. Lukes Episcopal Church, 18 James Lane, Wednesday, October 24, at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Seldons name to Goddard Riverside Community Center, 593 Columbus Avenue, NY, NY 10024 and Roosevelt Hospital, Development Office, 555 West 57th Street, NY, NY 10019.
