SHELDON GOLDSTEIN Obituary

GOLDSTEIN--Sheldon S.

A giant of the real estate industry and founder and Chairman of The Lynmark Group in Suffern, NY, passed away on December 4 at his home in Piermont, NY surrounded by his loving family. He was 86. Born on November 13, 1929 in Brooklyn, he was one of three sons of Jack and Ceil Goldstein. His parents as well as brothers Arthur and Martin preceded him in death. On December 23, 1950 he married Arlyne Brickner, the love of his life with whom he shared 65 years of marriage and survives him. Shelly - as he liked to be called - served his country in the Philippines as a member of the United States Army from 1950 to 1952. For over 56 years, his vision kept The Lynmark Group in the forefront of real estate development. The family-owned business spanning three generations of fathers, sons and grandsons has constructed and developed real estate projects in 19 states and internationally in Anguilla, British West Indies. With over 60 years of real estate experience, his knowledge of development and financing led to board memberships on Hudson United Bank & Trust Company as well as his role in organizing the First Women's Bank in New York City in 1975. His many industry affiliations include past Chairman and Trustee of the New York State University Construction Fund, State Director of the New York State Builders Association and Past President of the Rockland County Builders Association. Over the years, he and his wife Arlyne have been contributors to many philanthropic organizations including Camp Venture in Haverstraw, NY, the Eugene M. Levy Recreation Center for Camp Venture children, Brookland Park, a ten-acre park in the Village of Suffern, NY, and a cardiac care waiting room at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY. A lifelong supporter of the Jewish faith and the State of Israel, he and his wife honored the memory of their parents by building in their names and continue to sponsor a day care center in Kerem Ben Zimrah, Israel and a library in Dalton, Israel. In addition the family donated toward the construction of the Jewish Community Center in Rockland County, NY, which provides athletic facilities and a recreation center for the entire community. Giving back to others and to the community was as much a part of Shelly's life as his work. In addition to his beloved wife, Arlyne, he is survived by two sons and their families - Jeffrey Goldstein and his wife, Susan, Mark Goldstein and his wife Lainie. Five grandchildren - Joshua and his wife Rachael, Zachary, Daniel and his fiance Anna, Dylan, and Dakota. Three great-grandchildren - the children of Joshua and Rachael - Lindsay, Joseph and Alicia. Donations may be sent in the name of Sheldon S. Goldstein to JCC of Rockland, 450 W. Nyack Road, West Nyack, NY 10994 or UnitedHospice of Rockland County, 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY 10956.
