Shirah Neiman

NEIMAN--Shirah. The Whitney North Seymour, Jr. Association, the Robert B. Fiske, Jr. Association, the John S. Martin, Jr. Association and the Mary Jo White Association mourn the death of their beloved colleague and friend, Shirah Neiman. Ms. Neiman served in the US Attorney's Office (SDNY) for decades, ultimately becoming Deputy US Attorney. Ms. Neiman was brilliant, highly principled, fearless, and totally dedicated to the Office and its mission. Her skills as a trial lawyer were legendary and she took great pride in teaching and mentoring generations of young assistants. Ms. Neiman worked on many of the most important federal criminal and civil cases brought by the Office during her tenure, including serving as an Assistant Watergate Special Prosecutor. Ms. Neiman had a rich life outside of the Office. She loved spending time with her family and her many friends. As a long time resident of the Village, she participated fully in the cultural life of the city --- dance and all things musical, movies, literary discussions, and sports -- and traveled widely. She was an excellent athlete, playing on her high school basketball team and, a bit later, on the US Attorney's champion women's basketball team. We send our condolences to her sister, Dassi Gurfein, and her family. We will miss her.
