SOLANGE HERTER Obituary

HERTER--Solange Batsell. Solange Batsell Herter, of New York City and Paris, France, died peacefully on September 3, 2025 at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. Born in 1928, she grew up in Paris and New York, attended Bennington College and the Law Faculty at the Institut de Sciences Politiques in Paris. Her marriage in 1950 to Dr. Henri Deschamps ended in divorce as did her marriage in 1955 to Jean de La Bruyere. She was married in 1978 to Dr. Frederic Pratt Herter for 38 happy years, until his passing in 2015. She served on the board of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Friends of French Opera, the Film Forum, and the Bennington Museum. She was a pianist, a singer, an art advisor, a beloved mother, a good friend, and a great storyteller. May her beautiful soul rest in peace. She is survived by her four children, Mary Deschamps, Veronique de La Bruyere, Jacqueline Farman, and Marc de La Bruyere, two step-children, 11 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren.
