STEPHANIE LEIFER Obituary

LEIFER--Stephanie. Stephanie Leifer, 56, passed away on June 28, 2024, due to cancer. She was the beloved wife of Jonathan Bluman and the devoted mother to their cherished children, Amelia and Noah. Born on March 15, 1968, in Newark, NJ, to Linda (Franzman) Leifer and the late Dr. Jonas Leifer, Stephanie was raised in Cranford, NJ, where she shared a close bond with her sister, Michelle. Stephanie's academic journey led her to Georgetown University, where she graduated in 1990 with a degree in Government. She earned a Master's degree in Communications from Boston University, where she developed her passion for media and communication. Her television career began at the public television station WGBH-TV in Boston. She then moved to Los Angeles, where she joined Writers and Artists Agency as an assistant. In 1994, Stephanie began her remarkable nearly 30-year career at ABC, where she played a pivotal role in shaping some of television's most iconic shows, including "Grey's Anatomy," "Lost," "Scandal," "Desperate Housewives," "Ugly Betty," and "Blackish." Known for her calm demeanor, empathy, sense of humor, and deep appreciation for the contributions of others, Stephanie was a steadfast advocate for writers, producers, directors, and actors. Her ability to solve problems with grace and engage in genuine, heartfelt conversations defined both her personal and professional relationships. Stephanie's personal passions were a testament to her vibrant spirit. A diehard New York Yankees fan, she treasured the tradition passed down from her father and grandfather. She loved music, particularly the classic sounds of Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, and John Mellencamp. Summers spent at the family beach house on Cosey Beach Avenue in Connecticut were among her most cherished memories. Stephanie was also deeply committed to her community. As a court-appointed special advocate with CASA of Los Angeles, she dedicated her time to working on behalf of foster children. A private funeral was held on July 2nd at Mount Sinai Memorial Park in Los Angeles. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations in Stephanie's name can be made to CASA of Los Angeles, ensuring that her compassionate spirit continues to make a difference. (Photo credit: ABC/Bob D'Amico)

There is nothing anyone can say that will ease the pain when we lose someone we love. Sometimes they take a piece of our heart with them when they leave and sometimes they take a piece of our soul. May she rest in peace.

I never knew Stephanie outside of being a mere viewer of some of my favorite TV shows, Grey´s Anatomy, Lost, and Scandal, to name a few. I am so happy to have learned of her hard work and dedication to others. I know she will be truly missed.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

Stephanie and I were high school classmates. She was always kind, and usually smiling (when she wasn't rolling her eyes, appropriately). I loved her wry sense of humor. Her passing is a huge loss to anyone who knew her. I am very, very sorry.
