STEPHEN SCHWARTZ Obituary

SCHWARTZ--Stephen L. Stephen L. Schwartz, who for more than four decades led the Brookdale Foundation in advancing programs for older adults and their families, died at his home in Naples, FL, on September 22, 2025. He was 90. Mr. Schwartz became president of the Brookdale Foundation in 1984, and guided its support of initiatives for the aging, including pioneering programs in caregiving and dementia care. Earlier in his career, after graduating from Columbia Law School, he practiced law and spent time on Wall Street, and was also involved with Sunset Realty Corp., before turning to philanthropy. In addition to his leadership at the Brookdale Foundation, Mr. Schwartz was a member of the Mount Sinai Health System Board of Trustees in New York and held long- standing roles with NCH Healthcare System in Naples, Fla., where he was a devoted supporter of community and cultural institutions, including Artis - Naples, The Baker Museum, and the Baker Senior Center, where he also served on the Board of Trustees. His generosity and vision left a lasting mark on each of these organizations. He was known for his integrity, wisdom, and distinctive sense of humor. Though he did not seek a wide circle of acquaintances, he was deeply loyal to those he called friends. Mr. Schwartz is survived by his wife, Lety Schwartz; a daughter, Karen Hart; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by another daughter, Rebecca Shaffer. A private funeral service will be held, with a celebration of his life planned for the Fall. Those wishing to honor Stephen's memory may consider a contribution to the Baker Senior Center of Naples, FL.
