STEPHEN SHORT Obituary

SHORT--Stephen.

June 11, 1945-December 12, 2015. Stephen Short, a former Procter of the Admiralty, who also served in the Merchant Marine, passed away on December 12th. A longtime member of the New York State bar, his legal career encompassed maritime, criminal and personal injury law. In his youth, Mr. Short was also a gifted athlete, excelling as a swimmer, skier, sailor and avid tennis player. He was also deemed an Olympic caliber fencer by Maestro Odon Niederkirchner, of the NYAC. A colorful figure and lifelong champion of the underdog, he will be missed by all who loved him, including his sisters, Leslie Blake and Cheryl Bulbach and his brother, Dr. Wayne Blackmon. As per his wishes, Mr. Short's corneas were donated to the Eye Bank for Sight Restoration. A Memorial will be held in mid-January at the Village Funeral Home.

I'm remembering you on this sad day, Stephen. Luckily, after you got locked out of your apartment, when you were running from the cloud of debris when the first tower fell, a good Samaritan took you to St. Vincent's Hospital. It was learned that you had suffered a heart attack, probably while running. I'm thinking of Brian, too, who was so kind as to have your apartment cleaned, since you had left your windows open, so that you went home to a spotless apartment to recuperate. I hope that you are at peace now. You are always missed. Much love.

Let's see if the guest book can print this on the correct date! No wonder Stephen hated computers. But I know that he knows that my birthday wishes were intended for today, not yesterday. (I doubt that Bill Gates was behind the snafu, whatever Stephen might have thought.) Happy birthday TODAY, dear Stephen. Look for the roses I sent you. Much love.
