SOKOLOFF--Stephen Arnold, devoted husband of Helena, died on October 21, 2023 at age 99. He is survived by his loving wife Helena; sister Patricia Gantz; children Jason Sokoloff, Claudia Sokoloff, Danielle Butin, Marguerite (Peter) Gelfman and Suzanne (Marc) Hurwitz; grandchildren, Sam Butin, Caroline Butin, Justine Gelfman, Max Gelfman, Sally Butin , Emma Chapin, Jillian Chapin, and Zachary Hurwitz, and numerous loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. Stephen was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 29, 1924. Adored son of the late Ralph and Gertrude Sokoloff; and loving older brother of the late Leonard Sokoloff. Stephen attended UNC Chapel Hill, competing on the swim team, before enlisting in the US Army during the Second World War. He returned home to join the textile industry, and later discovered a natural affinity for the stock market that guided him to consistent success on Wall Street. Stephen enjoyed over five decades on Wall Street at firms including Schroeder & Company, Smith Barney, and Morgan Stanley. He was known for his understanding, wisdom, keen decisions, and respect for clients. He was dedicated to lifelong philanthropic leadership and served as President and Trustee of Jewish Child Care Association and Trustee of the Ackerman Institute for the Family. Stephen's loved ones thrived on his warmth, abundant generosity, and tender affection. Contributions in Stephen's memory may be made to Jewish Child Care Association, in lieu of flowers. Stephen's life and legacy was honored by family and friends at a funeral service on October 23, 2023 at 10am at Congregation Emanu-El of Westchester, 2125 Westchester Avenue, Rye, NY. Shiva was followed 1-3pm at Quaker Ridge Golf Club, 146 Griffen Ave., Scarsdale, NY 10583.
