STEVE ROSENBAUM Obituary

ROSENBAUM--Dr. Steve.

"Sheldon", died peacefully in his sleep on January 27, 2017. He was eighty eight. He is survived by his beloved wife Elise of sixty eight years, his daughter Margo, his son Mitchell and granddaughters, Abigail and Maya. A leading figure in the field of audiology and speech-language pathology, Dr. Rosenbaum was the director of the Hearing and Speech Center at Long Island Jewish hospital from its inception in 1965 for over 30 years. There he developed a free screening program for infants and children. He was driven to help people especially those who might not otherwise be able to afford treatment. He was a professor at Hofstra University and received his PHD from Columbia University with highest honors. He was president of LISHA 1969-1970 and a fellowship recipient of ASHA. He was a staunch supporter of mainstreaming the hearing impaired in an effort to integrate all into society. Steve Rosenbaum was a brilliant, sweet, gentle man who carried himself with grace and elegance and touched the lives of so many. He will be deeply missed.
