STUART MINTON Obituary

MINTON--Stuart Jr. Stuart Minton Jr., died peacefully at home on June 2, 2024 with Deborah, his cherished wife of 45 years, by his side. He was 94 years old. He is survived by his sons Tim (Linda) and Charles (Lisa), and his son-in-law Robert Bessoir. His beloved daughter Katherine pre-deceased him. Proud grandfather of Rachel and Jack; Alexander, Gabrielle and Phillip; and James. He is also survived by his sister Sari (James Berliner) and was a loving older brother to John. A graduate of the Ethical Culture Fieldston School and Cornell University, he was an Air Force officer during the Korean War. In the mid-1950s he began what would be a seven-decade career as an acknowledged pioneer in the advertising, marketing, and creative media business, rising to lead the flagship New York office of N.W. Ayer ABH International, one of the oldest advertising agencies in the United States, where he worked on iconic campaigns for DeBeers ("A Diamond Is Forever"), the Army ("Be All That You Can Be"), and AT&T ("The Next Best Thing to Being There"). In 1982 he founded MINCOM (Minton Communications, Inc.), an agency The New York Times reported at the time was based on "bold and innovative" ideas about the future of advertising, particularly on cable television, which was then a new medium. His remarkable tenure as active CEO of MINCOM continued up until his death. In lieu of flowers, donations in Stuart's name may be sent to Symphony Space in New York City. A Celebration of Stuart's life will take place on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 1pm at the Kinderhook Reformed Church, 21 Broad Street, Kinderhook, NY. There will be a reception at home following.
