SUSAN HECHT Obituary

HECHT--Susan Heming.

Susan died peacefully August 17 in Sleepy Hollow, NY at the age of 93, where she had lived happily since 2005. Prior to that she lived in Chappaqua, NY for 52 years where she raised her loving family. Susan was born on April 29, 1923, in New York City, the child of Henry Liebman Heming and Kate Sidenberg Heming. She attended Lincoln School in New York City, and received her BA from Smith College in 1945. She loved to play tennis and bridge with friends, to read and to share her thoughts with others, to travel and to paint. Her award winning paintings appeared in numerous group shows and some still grace the hallways at Kendal on Hudson, her final residence. She strived to help make the world a better place by volunteering and contributing to philanthropy and social service programs. For example, she helped in schools, served on her local school board, and was an election poll watcher regularly. She also loved time with family, to prepare delicious meals, and to host parties for friends and relatives. She will be missed and always remembered with love. She is survived by her four children, Henry, Luke (Wendy), Kate and Dan, three grandchildren, Matthew, Ben and Adam, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. Her husband of 45 years, Louis, predeceased her in 1995. No funeral services are planned. The family will have a private memorial. In her memory, donations can be made to Camp Ramapo for Children or a charity of your choice and cast a vote for Hillary.

Susan and her family added ago much to my life and that of my children. So much love and help and sharing set an example that I've always tried (and failed) to live up to. What a wonderful friend to have had.
