Dearest Rebecca,
I am so very sorry. Susumu was a wonderful person and friend.
You and Susumu were such a close part of my life for so long. I cannot count the visits I made to your NYC studio during the '90s - was it 100? More? The soul connection between you and your Susumu was an overriding sentiment during all those visits - it came to be almost a study on how much in tune two people could be. Losing constant contact was inevitable after you moved to Wyndam. However, the image in my mind of the two of you - always working together, anticipating each other's creative input and executing it in what seemed an effortless way to outsiders but which I know you both struggled hard to achieve - this remained how I remembered you during the long periods in between getting together in recent years. Susumu's dedication and commitment to you were absolute - as was yours to him - and if talent could have saved him, he would have lived forever.
My heart breaks for you, Rebecca. Please accept my deepest condolences and love.

Dear Rebecca,
I am so sorry to hear of Susumu's passing. You certainly had a wonderful and exciting life with him. While I only got to know the excellent gourmet chef part of Susumu ,I learned of his background as a famous photographer as I enjoyed the studio.
Talking to you and Susumu was like being at a home away from home. I will miss him ! I know you will never forget him. You are a strong person and will be alright!

Susumu was the beloved, youngest son of our family, who at an early age fell in love with photography. He followed his dreams by studying photography and graduating from the Tokyo College of Photography.
As a young man, determined to make his mark he set out from his home country to establish his name in New York City, the mecca of creativity and all things possible. The Takashi family is deeply mourning his passing and Susumu will remain in everyone's hearts forever.

Dearest Rebecca,
Our deepest sympathy regarding Susumu's passing. We will always remember his humbleness, warmth& kindness........as well as his enormous talent as an artist... as well as a gardener . We're always thinking so fondly of you . we must get together ,come and visit soon, Lliam (Skip) and Ron
PS:I shall always think of Susumu with two distinct images. The enormously sensible and complex artist who would create :" Susumu Sato's Eternal Snow Images of the Northern Catskills (C)TM and the seemingly simple gardener and chef who delighted in the joys of raising and cooking food and sharing it with friends . I known him since 1992, when I came to NYC TO pursuit my commercial photography career.
He was a few photographers whom I chose to learn their style of photography. He had very distinctive qualities on his work. Also I liked way of his working habit too. We finish the job when it is finished. It didn't matter it was 2 or 3 AM. Lots of long days... Did I mention I was getting overtime?
He was workaholic in good ways.
After many years in NYC, when they plan to move to Windhum l. I was able to help him the move, build storage in Kingston, renovation in old house and see old house becoming Beds on Clouds.
He taught me not only how to take a picture but he took me to fishing too. He taught me fishing like father to son. Very patient. Not like when we are at the Studio...
He was like my father. I miss him a lot.
I'll remember you forever.

We are very saddened by your loss. We have wonderful memories with Susumu- San and you since we stayed at your inn several years ago. Since then we are lucky that we got to know both of you and became good friends and family. We admired Susumu - San's many creative talents : His garden, his breakfasts and his photography. Especially the creation of an incredible photograph showing a large colorful fish emerging from a gushing fire hydrant. .The "Master piece" is adorning one of our walls in NYC. We will miss Susumu-San..........Please keep us posted on the date of the memorial. I will call you again and visit you !

Liebste Rebecca,
After all those years erinnere ich mich noch gut an Deinen Susumu!

Dear Rebecca, Sachiko still can not believe what happened to Susumu and she is refraining from calling you to console you because she is afraid to intensify your sadness and hers. It has been hard to accept what happened because we 've been imagining we would one day go and see both of you with my new family members.
We literally have some after shock blankness in our head and will take time to be able to accept reality as it was when I lost my grandmother and my father.
Sachiko and I are not being able to do much but we keep praying for you and Susumu-san for we know it is the best thing one can do to others, and our God is almighty. Rebecca when you feel sad pray and open a page in the bible. A message you need will appear into your eyes. Its amazing.
Rebecca ,my dear sister, lets be strong and overcome it together. Sachiko is praying for your wellbeiing.
Love and hugs ,

my wife and I traveled to windam 10 years ago , on a trip to find our own bit of peace and comfort after a loss so profound it had shaken us to the core..
We stayed at Susumo and Rebecca's B&B expecting to find a quite place but we found much more.
Upon meeting them we found ourselves pouring out emotions we had only shared with very few people and to at that time complete strangers. It was if we had known them all our lives and were separated by 800 miles. They invited us into their own home and we spent hours talking until 2 am. We came strangers and left as friends and family. Susumo graciously gave us a couple of his snowscape photos which we cherish and have framed in our home and think of them with fond memories.
Rebecca you may never know what that visit did for us and your and Susumo's kindness has stayed with us always. Susumo will be missed by us and we Love you both.
With the most Heartfelt condolences and love. Rest in peace until we can be together once more

Our deep and heartfelt condolences to Rebecca and the family in Japan.
We have known you many years Susumo, and your friendship has Blessed our lives. We will never forget your kindness.
How we enjoyed your magnificent miso soup with the Japanese squash and fish broth cooked in that beautiful clay pot. Not sure if you had made that broth out of the fish you had caught in the waters of Long Island where you often loved to go and fish. You truly excelled in the culinary arts with your lovely food and guests breakfasts. You have had many, many talents. One of which we will always remember, is that beautiful garden in the rear of your B&B and home. Filled with all kinds of wonderful salad greens and vegetables. A feast for the eyes. You were so kind and generous to bring for our garden a variety of tomato plants that you started from seed in your greenhouse. How proud you were of those little plants that grew into a magical crop pf organic heirloom varieties.
A quiet gentle man, full of humility and love, that is how we will always remember you. Rest peacefully in the arms of God Susumo, until we meet again.
