THOMAS LAWSON Obituary

LAWSON--Thomas E., age 84, dynamic ad executive for five decades. Thomas Elsworth Lawson of Quogue, NY, formerly of Manhattan and Wellesley, MA, passed away on June 29, 2021. Tom's Odyssean career began in the golden age of New York advertising and spanned 50 years, with leadership positions at Ogilvy & Mather, McCann-Erickson, and Arnold Worldwide. In 1971 Tom joined Ron and Len and formed, Rosenfeld, Sirowitz & Lawson. RS&L would become one of the most talked about and dynamic agencies in New York over the next 15 years, creating memorable work for clients such as McDonald's and Sharp Electronics ("From Sharp Minds Come Sharp Products"). In 1979, RS&L was named the hottest Medium-Size Shop of the Year. Tom graduated from Harvard University, where he played varsity football and received the William Paine LaCroix Award for sportsmanship, loyalty, and team spirit. After college, Tom continued to play tennis, golf, softball, and volleyball as often as he could. Tom also served in the US Army as a First Lieutenant, earning his Parachutist Badge. In later life, McDonald's presented him with its Lifetime Achievement Award. Anyone who met Tom will remember the most well-dressed man in the room, wearing Army Green Service or Polo black tie with equal elegance. His hospitality was legend: if you showed up on his doorstep - whether you were from overseas or zip code 11959 - you were welcomed with drinks, toasted at dinner, and offered a roof over your head for as long as you needed. Tom is survived by his wife, Nina, the love of his life for over 40 years; his children, Patric (Sarah) of Norwell, MA, James (Caroline Flynn) of Park Slope, and Samantha (Matthew Termine) of Park Slope; grandchildren, Maeve, Cordner, Matilda, Theo, and Oliver; siblings, CPT Peter (Rosine) of San Ramon, CA, Judy Clarke of Rockland, MA, and Christopher (Dianne) of Hanover, MA; and many nieces and nephews. Dear Nina and Family:
It is with great sadness that I've learned about Tom's passing. My heart and prayers go out to you and the family. I worked under Tom's guidance in the McDonald's group for many years at RS&L and he was the most dynamic, smart, athletic, and good looking icon in the business. Tom lit up the room when he walked in and always made you feel at ease and at home. I felt truly honored to be a part of his "team". May God bless you and the family, and may he rest in peace.

Please take care. May God bless both of you and your
families. All the best. Dave

Dear Nina and family, I felt such a great sadness when I heard the news of Tom's passing. I will always remember his great smile, hearty laugh, big hugs and the friendship and respect he shared with my late husband, John. (I'd like to think he and John are playing tennis and golf in heaven.) I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Take care of yourself and God bless. Many hugs, Carol Jean
