TOM WOLFE Obituary
The Trustees and staff of The New York Public Library deeply mourn the passing of Tom Wolfe, our great friend and one of the most extraordinary figures of New York City literary life. Named a Library Lion in 1981, he served as a Trustee, and most recently as an Honorary Trustee, as well as a Co-Chair of the Library's Council of Conservators and member of the Committees for the Research Libraries and Exhibitions. We are honored that he chose the Library as the permanent repository of his personal archive of manuscripts and letters that document his brilliant literary and cultural legacy. A man of abundant warmth, graciousness, and humor, we are grateful for his tremendous passion and devotion to the Library throughout the years. So sorry to read of the passing of the great Tom Wolfe. I've read and enjoyed his wonderful books &"The Right Stuff" is one of my favorite films. He was truly an amazingly talented writer and will be missed. His body of work will be his lasting legacy. Condolences & prayers go out to his family, friends & associates.
