She will be fondly remembered for her warmth, generosity, dedication, and compassion. Dr. Zimmerman is survived by her husband David, two sons and two grandsons. We extend our deepest sympathies to the entire Zimmerman family. Robert I. Grossman, M.D., Dean Steven B. Abramson, M.D. Vice Dean

Her legacy lives on in the people's lives she touched. There is not a day that goes by that I don't remember her and her words of encouragement.

Sometimes there are people that become special to us in a short time and touch our lives and hearts in some way that will make a lasting impression on us. You Veva was that kind of person. Some of our heart to heart talks will be remembered for the rest of my life. You were such a dynamo and so loved people in a special way that only you could do. Miss you and treasure always the friendship we had.

She was my best therapist.
She helped me to put all my identities together, Jewish Black and Lesbian.
May her memory be a blessing.

I was the first year medical student when 2 parents suddenly died , Dr. Zimmerman was my chief human comforter , she was like part of my holy trinity with God and Jesus ! All I can do is pay it forward in her spirit. without Veva I had no human shoulder , to shoulder my weakness. After talking to our mutual friend , I felt her touch my life again. Thank you Veva . bless her family of loved ones .

When I knew Veva she was in Sheffield, VT. She was a significant personable person. Majoring in my studies of Psychology she helped bring to life some of my training. We were able to visit and share many aspects of our lives. Such a memorable time and friendship. Veva RIP

We were neighbors on 111 Street while David and Veva's boys were just being born and growing up and I was between marriages, and kind of lost and depressed. I'd wander upstairs and the welcome mat and the bourbon were always there and we'd just have fun conversations and nothing was ever mentioned about my state of mind. We just hung out and I'd feel a bit better. That's one of the many things I've felt grateful for in knowing this wonderful family.

I met Veva at a very difficult time in my life, and she was instrumental in getting me back into shape. Her attention and dedication to my well-being set the positive course which I'm currently on... My heart stopped a beat when I heard the news; her warm spirit lives on in me.

I first met Veva when I was a freshman at Wellesley and have known her since. She was a warm and intelligent person, the perfect combination for a physician, psychiatrist, dean, wife, and mother. My condolences to David and family, friends, neighbors and colleagues.

I was truly blessed to meet and become a friend of Veva. She was such a wonderful, warm, caring person. She truly had wisdom of life that many of us search for a lifetime. She will be missed and my condolences to her family and friends. David I am so sorry for your loss of such a wonderful woman. She was a blessing to Sheffield as well and she was loved. God speed Veva, Heaven will be blessed with your presence and hope to meet with you again in the Spirit life everlasting.

Veva's Wellesley class remembers her not only for a certain calm, confident presence, but also for the amazing career she pursued and excelled at. Just re-reading her reunion-year postings is an inspiration.

I participated in Veva's Program in Preparation for the Professions(PIPP) program in 1992 at NYU. That program changed the course of my life and was the beginning of the mentor/mentee relationship Veva and I shared. She tirelessly worked to improve my life. She showed me that mentorship is not a summer commitment, but rather a life-long commitment. This is a great loss for me but her memory will live on in me.

Veva and I were in the same class at Wellesley. I always liked her, and as her career blossomed, I came to admire her greatly, too.

I first met Veva on moving here in 2000 from New Mexico and finding her, with David, in their house in the village. She was always great to talk and laugh with when I came over. You wouldn't have known she was a dean! She will be remembered for the roses she grew, Thor her peripatetic cat, the offered glass of wine, her calls to come on in or over when I was walking by. She was loved and will be missed by many here. Viva Veva in our hearts!

I first met Veva through her good friend, the late Carole Klein.
Carol brought me to a group founded
by women scientists and appropriately named Veva's Divas.
I was struck by Veva's majestic appearance, force, and wit.
My condolences to her family.
