VINCENT FITZPATRICK

FitzPATRICK--Vincent R. Jr., a retired lawyer, died Saturday, August 13, 2022, of natural causes. Mr. FitzPatrick was born in Brooklyn on January 4, 1945 to Patricia and Vincent, Sr. He grew up on Staten Island, the eldest of six children, with four brothers, Rory, Dick, Mark and Chris, and a sister, Mary. He was a graduate of Manhattan College and Columbia Law School and served as a captain in the United States Air Force for three years during the Vietnam War, where he was an attorney in the Office of General Counsel, based in the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Mr. FitzPatrick practiced law for over forty years, during which he was a member and partner of Manhattan law firms White & Case and Dewey Ballantine where his practice focused on complex commercial litigation. Always passionate about helping those without access to legal representation, Mr. FitzPatrick also dedicated a significant amount of his time to pro bono matters, and was a recipient of the 2008 Thurgood Marshall Award for Capital Representation by the New York City Bar for leading the charge in challenging Alabama's method of execution by lethal injection as cruel and unusual punishment. Mr. FitzPatrick was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He beseeched those he loved to treat everyone with kindness, compassion, and respect. Three traits he exemplified to the very end. Mr. FitzPatrick is survived by his wife, Eileen; two sons, Vincent, III and Colin; and two grandsons, Jack and Benjamin. A funeral service will be held in Manhattan at Frank E. Campbell - The Funeral Chapel on Friday, August 19, 2022 at 10:30am.
